Mooney Boats Ltd Complete Refit On MFV New Dawn

The MFV “New Dawn” owned by Jonathan O Donnell has just received a refit by Mooney Boats Ltd. Earlier in the year the yard carried out work to Jonathans other vessel the “James Collins” back in November and Jonathan was so impressed with the yards set up and work standards he took the “New Dawn” to the yard.

The vessel arrived in the Killybegs on the 3rd December 2010 and was lifted out at the yard. The vessel was washed from top to bottom and then taken inside the yard for repairs.

A new 316l Stainless Steel hand rail was fitted up the starboard side and around the bow and back down the port side. The propeller was removed from the vessel and refurbished and then refitted. The main engine was realigned and re-bolted back down in place and there was also some modification completed to piping etc.

A new Auto pilot was fitted to the vessel by Sonatron Ltd and Mooney Boats Ltd completed the mechanical side of the installation. The pot hauler was repositioned inboard behind the wheelhouse and new hydraulic piping was fitted. A new Stainless Steel bate table and roller were manufactured and fitted by the yard. The hull was reinforced with fiberglass on the potting side again done by the yard. A second station for engine controls was fitted at the back of the wheelhouse beside the new potting table for the safety. New anodes were fitted and then the vessel was completely painted from top to bottom inside and out with a Jotun & Clarke paint system supplied by Mooney Boats Ltd and once again applied by Gerard Bray & Sons. The vessel was put back in the water on the 17th December and return home to Porthurlin Co Mayo on the 18th December.
