Clewbay Marine Services Ltd Multimac 9 Lengthened by 3m at Mooney Boats Ltd

Clewbay Marine Services Ltd “Multimac 9” Lengthened by 3m @ Mooney Boats Ltd

Mooney Boats Ltd has just completed the lengthening of Clewbay Marine Services Ltd “Multimac 9”. The Multimac 9 was built by Mooney Boats Ltd in 2005 for Clewbay Marine Services Ltd as multifunctional aluminium work barge. The vessel has a very low draft and is ideal for getting in tight corners. When the vessel was built originally at 9m she had a top speed of over 20 knots.

In 2007 Mooney Boats Ltd supplied and fitted a Guerra Marine Crane Model M40.90A1 with a GDW-050 winch. The vessel did not have any hydraulic power so the yard also supplied and fitted a 20Hp engine driven Hydraulic power pack to operate the new crane. With the many advantages that the crane has given the vessel one draw back was her speed was reduced drastically by the extra weight and she was only able to achieve around 10 Knots.

In December 2010 Clewbay Marine Services approached Mooney Boats Ltd to see if anything could be done to increase speed. After some thought and discussion with the designer MDI the yard said yes if we lengthen the vessel we will increase her speed. It was agreed to proceed with the project and the original designers MDI began to prepare the plans to increase the vessel in length by 3m and also to reposition the crane and power pack to the forward end of the vessel.

The yard began the work immediately once MDI had all the drawings completed and the Marine Survey office had them approved. The drawings were done to meet Lloyds SSC rules and the vessel was built to same rules. Along with the lengthening of the vessel the yard also completed other jobs which included repositioning of the Guerra Marine Crane and the power pack, a new hydraulic capstan was fitted and the vessel was completely repainted.

On the 10th February the vessel was put back in the water for seatrails and they were completed successfully. The extra 3m which were put into the vessel and the repositioning of the crane had a dramatic effect as predicted and the vessel achieved a top speed of 21 knots on trials. After Seatrials were completed the vessel was taking back into the yard to complete the painting. On the 22nd February the Marine Survey Office along with Marine Design International re inclined the vessel and new stability book has now been approved for the vessel and she has obtained her P2 Passenger license once again. The Multimac 12 was then loaded on a lorry and left Mooney Boats Ltd yard on the 26th February in the early hours of the morning and delivered back down to Clewbay were she is now back in operation.
