Aran Island Supply Vessel “Blath Na Mara” Dry-Docks In Mooney Boats Ltd

Rory Beatty dry-docked his vessel the “Blath Na Mara” in Mooney Boats Ltd on the 19th October 2011. At over 40meters overall length and a beam of over 10m this was one of the largest vessels to date up on the Synchrolift in Killybegs. When the vessel was up on the Synchrolift there was a large amount of work carried out on the ship which included the following. The vessel was washed from Top to Btm before she was put into the covered repair bay. When the vessel was inside Mooney Boats Ltd took off the rudders and removed rudder shafts. The propeller shafts propeller hubs and blades where then all taken back to Mooney Boats Ltd machine shop. The hubs were stripped and made ready for inspection for the Marine Survey Office. On completion of inspection the hubs were rebuilt and made ready for putting back in the vessel. The main tail shafts were put into the lathe and checked for wear again inspected by the Marine Survey Office. The steering system was completely stripped and refurbished with new bushings and pins been manufactured supplied and fitted. The yard also fitted new btm plates in various parts of the hull. On completion of steel works the vessel was shot blasted and painted completely. When the shotblastinga and painting was completed the yard refitted the tail shafts, rudders and the steering system.
